A Career in Re-Upholstery

Career Requirements

If you want to be your own boss and make a good living, a career in furniture re-upholstery could be just what you are looking for.

If you have a passion to work with furniture that comes in looking of disrepair, and have the desire to make it look like it just came off of the showroom floor, then this is the business for you.

Susan’s Background

I am self- taught and have been doing re-upholstery for 45 years and still love it! I have decided to teach courses in reupholstering because there are no schools in the area that train new people. There are few new people entering this craft, and the current personnel involved are quickly retiring.

You don’t need a lot of money to start out. I started on my first chair with a flat head screw driver, a pliers, a hammer, 2 how-to books, a pre- World War II sewing machine and I later added an electric staple gun. I worked out of my unfinished basement. The remarkable thing was our four children never had to go to day care because I worked out of my home.
